Yimiao Wang is a second-year Illustration MFA student at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA, where she majored in Gender Studies and minored in Comparative Literature. With a strong foundation in critical theory, creative writing, and academic research, Yimiao’s work bridges feminist and queer theory with illustration and storytelling.
Her visual narratives explore themes of hidden family histories, the complexities of household dynamics, and the interplay between truth and fiction. By creating illustrations rooted in research, Yimiao seeks to move beyond the cliche of self-exploration and self-expression, offering nuanced and thought-provoking imagery that engages with broader cultural and theoretical discourses.
